Prep Year

The Prep Program began for the first time at Ascot State School in 2007 with three classes. The Prep Teachers and Teacher Aides work co-operatively with each other five days a week.

The Prep Program promotes the five contexts of learning: Play, Real-life Situations, Investigations, Routines and Transitions and Focused Learning and Teaching. These contexts of learning encourages the development of Social and Personal Learning, Health and Physical Learning, Language Learning and Communication, Early Mathematical Understandings and Active Learning Processes.

We are very well resourced with computers (linked to the Internet and Intranet) in each room, prep libraries, collage trolleys and equipment, various construction equipment, dress-up areas, cooking areas and other areas that the children can access regularly. We have an outdoor play area specifically designed for prep students.

There are many opportunities for prep students to interact with staff and children around our school such as attending Physical Education, Music and Library lessons as well as attending Assemblies and interacting with our buddy classes. We also have the opportunity to attend events such as Arts Council performances and other class or school events.

Prep students and their parents have access to visiting specialists such as the Guidance Officer, Advisory Visiting Teachers, School Nurse and other consultants. Each class has a parent representative who works closely with the prep teacher and other parents.

The prep teachers will be providing parents with a digital portfolio of their child’s work as well as discussing their child’s progress within the Prep Curriculum. These discussions often occur at various times throughout the year however an official interview will also take place.

The prep focus in on creating a safe, warm and comfortable environment for all children to learn in. For more information on the Prep Curriculum please access the Education Queensland website.
